Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has officially launched the All-New Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, bringing the Japanese automaker’s plug-in hybrid technology to the Philippine market for the first time.

Positioned as Mitsubishi’s new SUV flagship, the Outlander PHEV combines a gasoline engine with twin electric motors, giving it the ability to operate as an electric vehicle for daily driving while retaining the range and flexibility of a gasoline-powered vehicle for longer trips.

At the center of the system is a 2.4-liter MIVEC gasoline engine paired with front and rear electric motors. Together, the system produces a combined 306 PS and 450 Nm of torque.

More importantly, the Outlander PHEV can travel up to 100 kilometers purely on electric power, while Mitsubishi claims a combined driving range of almost 1,000 kilometers.

This gives the Outlander PHEV considerably more flexibility than a conventional battery-electric SUV, particularly for drivers who regularly travel long distances.

100 kilometers of electric driving

The Outlander PHEV is designed to allow drivers to use electric power for a significant portion of their daily driving. Mitsubishi says the vehicle offers several EV drive modes, including Normal, Save, Charge, and EV Priority.

EV Priority allows the vehicle to prioritize electric propulsion, while Save can preserve the battery’s charge for later in the journey. Charge mode allows the gasoline engine to recharge the battery while driving.

When the battery’s available charge is depleted, the Outlander PHEV can continue operating as a hybrid, with the gasoline engine working alongside the electric motors. This means drivers don’t have to rely entirely on charging infrastructure for longer journeys.

The vehicle supports AC Type 2 charging, making it compatible with the charging infrastructure commonly used in the Philippines.

A PHEV with proper 4WD capability

Electrification isn’t the only major feature of the Outlander PHEV. Mitsubishi has also equipped it with its Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

The system integrates the vehicle’s twin-motor 4WD setup with Active Yaw Control, ABS, Active Stability Control, and Traction Control to continuously manage traction and stability.

There are also seven selectable drive modes. Normal, Eco, and Power modes allow the driver to adjust the vehicle’s performance characteristics, while Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud modes are designed for different road surfaces and conditions.

This combination of plug-in hybrid technology and Mitsubishi’s 4WD system is what MMPC is referring to with the Outlander PHEV’s “Power of Both Worlds” philosophy.

A premium new flagship

The Outlander PHEV also receives a significant upgrade in terms of cabin technology and comfort.

The Philippine-spec model comes with light gray leather-trimmed seats, soft-touch interior materials, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12.3-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also gets an 8-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium audio system, Smart Rear View Mirror, and a Head-Up Display.
Driver and passenger comfort is further enhanced by 8-way power-adjustable front seats with lumbar support, memory, heating, and ventilation, while the cabin uses a triple-zone automatic climate control system.

Safety equipment includes Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing, with features such as Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic High Beam, and Driver Attention Alert.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV price in the Philippines
